Fortify Your Gut for Fall
5 week class to improve gut health, by Lesley James, MD
October 13, 20, 27, Nov 3, 10, Tuesdays at 7:15 PM | $185.00
The gut is the body’s largest interface with the environment because of its vast surface area. For this reason, the gut contains the majority of the body’s immune cells, secretes liters of fluids daily, and undergoes constant turnover of the cells on the epithelial surface. This complexity means a lot can go wrong in the gut, and the underlying cause is not always apparent. Many diagnoses of gut dysfunction, such as IBS, are catchall terms that describe a constellation of symptoms but don’t give any insight into the underlying cause or appropriate treatment
This 5 week class focuses on restoring gut integrity by increasing good bacteria and absorbability of nutrients, reducing pathogenic bacteria, and supporting the repair of the intestinal wall. When we restore gut integrity we are less susceptible to poor digestion, food sensitivities, and chronic diseases. Fall is the ideal time to do this as it ensures the immune system is primed for the winter (60-80% of the body’s immune cells are located in/around the gut.)
This class is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their immunity and gut health. There will be 3 weeks of a prescribed diet (optional) and follow a functional/integrative approach to improving gut function.
Class is guided by Dr Lesley James MD and Heather Carrera, Staff Nutritionist.
